Hummingbird Standard in Cobra Burst finish
This Gibson Custom Select Hummingbird™ Standard features unique appointments such as a Cobra Burst finish. Other custom features include gold hardware and a striped ebony bridge and fretboard. Customized features on classic models, such as the Hummingbird Standard, are possible through Gibson Custom Select. Gibson Custom Select is a collection of guitars with custom features hand-picked by Gibson’s experts. These features include unique appointments such as custom finishes and upgraded tonewoods on traditional and modern models that are handcrafted in small batches by the highly skilled artisans at the Custom Shop.
The Gibson Hummingbird was originally released in 1960 in a Cherry Sunburst finish. This was Gibson’s introduction to the square-shoulder dreadnought design. A spruce top with mahogany back and sides paired with a fixed rosewood bridge was the recipe that made for a solid introduction into the world. Notable artists who have used the Gibson Hummingbird range from Keith Richards to Taylor Swift, which shows the longevity of the guitar as well as its versatility. With its iconic painted tortoiseshell pickguard, the Gibson Hummingbird has been loved by singer-songwriters for decades.
While the Gibson Hummingbird is typically showcased in its recognizable Cherry Sunburst finish, this Gibson Custom Select Hummingbird Standard is finished in a special Cobra Burst finish. This finish is achieved by an initial layer of transparent black stain that is applied by hand with a darker finish sprayed around the perimeter, which gives the guitar the blended finish. Not only is this finish not typically found on acoustic guitars, but it adds a modern aesthetic to a decades-old design. The striped ebony bridge and fretboard replace the usual rosewood that is utilized on the standard production model. Ebony is rare to find on any traditionally specified Gibson acoustic guitar, which makes this upgrade a rare sighting. Gold hardware finishes off the custom appointments and contrasts with the Cobra Burst finish. Loaded with onboard L.R. Baggs™ VTC electronics, this Gibson Custom Select Hummingbird is ready to be played on stage.
With all these hand-picked features from Gibson’s experts on a classic model that has been loved for decades, this Gibson Custom Select Hummingbird Standard combines modern aesthetics with classic design. All these custom features combined on a classic model like the Hummingbird Standard can only be achieved through Gibson Custom Select and the Made to Measure program, which makes this guitar one rare bird. Included with this Gibson Custom Select Hummingbird Standard is a hardshell case and a Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
