The Les Paul Custom from the Modern Collection has all the classic Les Paul Custom appointments, which includes the big mother-of-pearl block inlays on the fretboard, the iconic split-diamond inlay on the headstock, and the multi-ply binding around the top and back of the guitar. Features that make this model from Modern Collection special include a weight-relieved body, Les Paul Custom Modern Medium C-Shape neck profile, and 498T and 490R pickups.

From a distance, this Les Paul Custom might look like a normal model, but by taking a closer look, it’s apparent that this Andromeda Black finish is much different from the typical Ebony finish. This special Andromeda Black finish features white and silver sparkles in the black finish and takes its name from a constellation from the northern sky. This sparkle finish covers everywhere that is finished on the guitar, including the top, back, sides, and neck of the guitar. Chrome hardware is paired with the black finish to give it a consistent contrast throughout the entire guitar. Instead of the normal black Speed knobs that would be found on a Les Paul Custom from the Modern Collection, black Top Hat knobs with silver inserts have been used, which continues the black and chrome theme from top to bottom.

To give this guitar a “modified” appearance, the bridge pickup bobbins are exposed. Many guitarists over the decades, including Jimmy Page, have done this to their guitars, which is believed to make the guitars sound more aggressive. Powered by an Alnico 2 magnet, the 490R is rated at 8k while the Alnico 5-powered 498T humbucker™ is much hotter at 14.2k. Both these pickups are potted, which helps reduce feedback while playing at loud volumes. These pickups are hand-wired with 500k potentiometers with genuine paper-in-oil capacitors, which deliver crystal-clear tone from zero to ten on the volume and tone controls.
