The Cobra Burst finish has a unique characteristic where the woodgrain is cross-hatched with the wood from the pre-staining process. The burst is achieved by spraying a darker shade around the perimeter of the guitar, which makes this finish a bit of a hybrid when it comes to the finishing process. Striped ebony is used on the bridge and fretboard, which replaces the rosewood that is normally used on the J-45 Standard. Ebony is rare to find on any traditionally outfitted Gibson acoustic guitar, but this smooth tonewood can be found on guitars like the SJ-200 Custom. Gold hardware also replaces the typical nickel hardware, which brings a bit more flash and class to the guitar.
