Job Summary
A luthier is a craftsperson who makes and repairs stringed instruments. A guitar luthier has studied and or trained in the art of guitar construction and repair.
Essential Functions
Main duties
- Proficient in guitar manufacturing construction of guitars (rough mill, whitewood, color prep, buffing, finishing, and final assembly) to assist production as needed
- Assist product development team and engineering, in the launch process of new product
- Support and assist repair department in highly skilled repairs of guitars
- Problem solving of quality defects, to help identify root cause
- Assist in training of team members to advance knowledge and further develop skillsets of guitar manufacturing process (rough mill, whitewood, color prep, buffing, finishing, and final assembly)
- Working knowledge of historically correct product characteristics and Gibson platform of guitars
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Practical hands on work with band-saw, table saw, jointer, planer, some CNC, sanders, HPLP sprayers, buffing wheels, soldering, and basic assembly tools
- Ability to read blue prints, define product characteristics, trouble-shoot, problem solving, and work cross-functionally within the broader team
- Effective time management skillset with the ability to prioritize
Required Education and Experience
- Certification or equivalent degree from accredited guitars school or related work experience
Essential Knowledge
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Project management skills combined with ability to work as part of a team

Travel Requirements
- This position is mostly office based, but may involve irregular travel

- Must be able to stand all day and lift guitars throughout the day.
