Using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) software, the CAD Designer will develop detailed 3D design models and 2D drawings and specifications for new products.  Create, modify and/or revise existing product models and drawings to document, correct errors or to reduce production problems.  Create 3D printed prototype models. Perform mechanical reviews of new physical product samples to ensure products meet the dimensions and tolerances set forth in the initial design. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Use 3D CAD design software to create detailed 3D design and 2D drawings for complex parts and assemblies
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary engineering team, product managers, and project managers on design details and concepts
  • Ensure that all designs and drawings are in line with project specifications, guidelines and are designed for manufacturability and tooling
  • Use 3D CAD software to revise, update, and correct designs and drawings as needed
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to the product development team regarding 3D design capabilities and limitations
  • Review product requirements documents, sketches, or other forms of informative product documentation to guide design decisions
  • Perform 3D printing on parts and/or assemblies
  • Perform physical testing and design verification on engineering prototypes
  • Present and explain designs to team members and management as needed
  • Maintain a database of all CAD designs, drawings, toolboxes and common parts

Required Skills/Abilities

  • CAD software modeling; Solidworks preferred, AutoCAD, Pro-E, Fusion, etc.
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Results oriented and driven, with a track record for delivering to plan

  • Able to proactively question and challenge to prioritize and identify solutions in a timely manner

Knowledge

  • Design – Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models
  • Thorough knowledge of GD&T standards and application thereof
  • Mathematics – Good mathematical skills, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications

 

Required Education and Experience 

  • College/Technical Certificate and
  • 2+ years work experience in a CAD/Drafting capacity

 

Essential Knowledge 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Project management skills combined with ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team

Travel Requirements 

  • Periodic travel to and between the company’s manufacturing locations may be required (5-10%)
