Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer will perform engineering duties in planning and designing electro-mechanical parts and assemblies, tooling, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
This role is a key position within the multi-disciplinary Gibson R&D team responsible for the design and development of all Pro Audio products for Gibson. It will play an important role in helping to develop systems within our current markets and into adjacent market segments as well.
Essential Functions
Main duties
- Assist Product Development Team in developing the structural design of products using drafting tools or computer-assisted design (CAD) or drafting equipment and software. Demonstrate proficiency with Solidworks 2017 or newer (Top down and Bottom up design philosophy, part and assembly models).
- Build and evaluate prototype mechanical speaker system assemblies and components.
- Generate Drawings, BOMs, Component libraries, etc.
- Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
- Evaluate written engineering specifications and cost targets to achieve a product design that meets Safety and Product requirements.
- Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications, and necessity of modification.
- Support Manufacturing by developing corrective actions and supporting reports, e.g., ECO, ECR, etc.
- Develop, coordinate, or monitor all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, or operation of product designs.
- Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
Other duties
While the Mechanical Engineer must be technically proficient in executing the responsibilities noted above, tasks of equal value may be required:
- Building and assembling proof of concept and prototype models
- Working with machinery in a shop environment
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, BSME, or equivalent experience required
- Minimum 5 years of successful product engineering experience, preferably in consumer products
- Two to five years of experience designing professional audio products.
- Abundant knowledge and fluency with design standards related to die-casting, molding and sheet metal forming.
- Excellent skills in GD & T.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD applications, especially Solidworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, knowledge of the theory and principles of electro-mechanical design.
- Good work ethic and a passion for audio and music.
- Good organizational, decision-making, human relations, and communication skills.
- Good computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Travel Requirements
- Periodic domestic and international travel to and between the company’s development and manufacturing locations will be required (5-10%)

- Able to lift and maneuver items up to 60 lbs.
