The Suspended 4th Chord In Various Positions

This is yet another critical lesson for the guitarist who wants all of the tools of the trade. The suspended 4th is an important sound to begin to recognize, and it’s an important part of ear training. The positions are very different all over the neck, but their roots are, as always, based in the original open suspended 4th chord positions.

These are also associated with the Folk Rock sounds created in the ‘60s, and of course, the preceding folk stylings of players such as Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie , Joan Baez, Eric Andersen, Phil Ochs and many others.

Certain right hand rhythmic patterns also come to mind when using these positions, as well as single-note work that will all be addressed in this really cool lesson! Hope you enjoy it, and put it to good use!—Arlen Roth
