Changing Setups In Sonar – EUREKA!

09.26.2007

I finally figured out how to change setups in Sonar. Brandon from Cakewalk had told me that I should be able to have multiple projects open at the same time, and only the one with the focus would actually drain the CPU. However, whenever I switched focus to the new window, the audio engine would quit.

Well, in one of those Homer Simpson “doh!” moments, I thought “what if I just click on the audio engine enable button?” And of course, that was the answer. So I created a couple test setups, had them all open at the same time, and it worked. Basically, changing setups works like this:

1. Have all projects open that you plan to use during the set.
2. Click on the window (I use the Console window) for the project you want to use.
3. The audio engine will shut off in about 5 seconds.
4. Enable the audio engine. The new setup is now active.

Obviously this isn’t something I’d want to change within a song, but to change setups between songs is not a big deal. Cool!
